The Institute of Biomembranes, Bioenergetics and Molecular Biotechnologies of CNR (CNR-IBIOM), in about thirty years of activity, has become one of the leading research laboratories at national and international level in the field of Bioenergetics and Biomembranes, taking advantage of its outstanding expertise in biochemistry, molecular biology and biophysics. In the recent years, research interests and skills have expanded to Genomics, Bioinformatics and Molecular Biodiversity addressing several biomedical, agro-food and environmental biotechnological applications. In this framework IBIOM provides access to expertise and tools for genomic, metagenomic, phylogenetic, and DNA barcoding studies.
CNR-IBIOM Genomics and Bioinformatics Lab hosts fully operative biomolecular facilities based on the most innovative High-Throughput Sequencing (HTS) technologies and advanced resources for computational analysis. Moreover, in the framework of an ongoing agreement, CNR-IBIOM may access to Department of Biosciences, Biotechnologies and Biopharmaceutics - UNIBA facilities. In particular, we plan to make available to TA-users the following bioinformatic services for the taxonomic analysis of prokaryotic and eukaryotic environmental communities: BioMaS (PMID: 26130132) and MetaShot (PMID: 28130230), which are two completely automated workflows for taxonomic characterization of metabarcoding and metagenomic shotgun sequences, respectively, and ITSoneDB (PMID: 29036529), which is a comprehensive reference database of well annotated ITS1 sequences aimed at eukaryotic communities deep profiling.
The main bioinformatic services that will be made available to TA-users in IBIOM laboratories include:
1. Design and application of bioinformatic workflows for the taxonomic analysis of meta-barcoding or shotgun sequence data produced by HTS technologies.
2. Workflows for comparative analyses of (meta)genomes associated with different environments and conditions.
TA-users will have access to facilities and services listed above, laboratory space, administrative and logistic support. They will be also basically trained and assisted in the use of bioinformatics tools and platforms hosted in the Institute. A number of cafeterias, restaurants, hotels and B&Bs are available nearby the Institute. The local liaison officers will assist TA-users with lodging and restaurants reservations.
